Showered with love

What a whirlwind weekend. The reason I have not blogged in a week is because Joe, Wells and I took a trip to KC where we were just loved on the entire weekend. The reason for the gathering was to celebrate the little guy, but it was so much more than that. My brother and sister-in-law came in from Pittsburgh and my sis, Jeremiah and parents live in KC, so we just had a great time Friday night at dinner where we laughed the whole time. It was like old times, so great.

Then Saturday morning, my family and friends showered us with love at an awesome baby shower. My cousin, Maggie came in all the way from Texas to see us, what an awesome girl. She took the pix too, thanks Maggs!

My wonderful family who threw the shower for us. Man I feel short, what happened, why I am the runt...and since when is 5'71/2 that short, geez! Next time I am wearing heels!

They know how to decorate, it looked so pretty!

Such a fun gift, a book called "The Tickle Monster" with these monster gloves. Wells is going to love these!

And then the group gift, oh the group gift. I am so excited to use the stroller! It is so AWESOME!

My bro and nephew joined us at the end, guess which one is really pregnant. I know it will be tough. Johnny, is that what I really look like, I must be having triplets!

Our wonderful Saturday ended with us going to the KU vs. Texas Tech game. I had forgotten how much I LOVE KU basketball. I am so excited to say that Joe has admitted he had a blast and that Allen Field House lives up to its reputation. Oh and I just want to mention that behind us on the right is the NCAA National Championship trophy! Go Hawks!

Thank you so much to everyone for blessing us this weekend. We are so thankful for each and every one of you!

28 weeks...last trimester baby!

Thinking about the fact that I am now in my last trimester brings me so much joy, but also a little more anxiety than I have had in the first 2 trimesters. So much joy that I get to meet the little guy in just a few months and see whose nose he has and whose eyes he has and compare the pix to our baby pictures. I just can't wait to meet this little guy who has been playing soccer in my belly for so long now. On the other hand, I have so much to do in preparation for his arrival, or so it seems. Finish the nursery, get my job in a good rhythm that I feel comfortable with it when the he arrives. Also, anxiety over will I be able to sleep at all, will I be a good mom, what is my birthing plan (whatever that means), and  have I done enough research on how to care for this new life.

Anyway, I know everything will work out and we are just so thankful for a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby boy that all of those anxieties are dumb and I get over them quickly.

We went to dinner last night with some of our closest friends, the Hertzbergs, from Moody church at Flemings, which was such a fun celebration for reaching our last trimester. I took this picture when we got home. Emotional day (car breakdown) leaves circles under the eyes, so please excuse them!

How far along: 28 weeks
Total weight gain: gained 17 lbs total (lost a pound in the last 4 weeks, go figure!)
Maternity clothes: oh yes, packed up my regular pants a few weeks ago!
Stretch marks: None and hoping not to get any. Thank you for good genes!
Sleep: Someone told me that you sleep better in your last trimester, true, the last 3 nights I have slept through the night!
Best moment of this week: Having dinner with good friends after a little bit of an emotional roller coaster over my car.
Miss anything: Nothing really
Movement: This baby is a gymnast, doesn't stop kicking, especially right before bed. So fun to feel him hiccup now too.
Food cravings: tomato, avocado and cucumber salads. Oh and peppermint ice cream for dessert. Obviously not together!
Anything making you queasy or sick: nope- hooray!
Have you started to show yet: Getting bigger every day I feel like! 1 pound at least a week from here on out, crazy!
Gender: BOY!!
Labor signs: none, it will be crazy when I say yes to this.
Belly button in or out: In, but getting shallower (is that a word?), which is crazy because I am known for an oddly deep belly button.
Wedding rings on or off: On
Happy or moody most of the time: Super happy most of the time, but moody this week.
Looking forward to: Our first baby shower next weekend. Thank you wonderful women in my life for blessing us more than we deserve!

We received our first gift in the mail this week, so fun! Thank you John and Monica for this awesome baby rocker! This is me putting it together! Jack is never far off, can you spot him?

There is a reason it is for babies and not for dogs, Jack wasn't thrilled by the thing :)

So long for now, have a wonderful week!

No good, very bad....and expensive week - part II!

OK...thanks for letting me get my frustration off my chest in that last post. Now that I have gotten myself under control and took a shower, I am doing better. I put my iPod on and a song I never had heard came on....Thankful, by Mary Mary. It got me to realize that I cannot let anyone or anything steal my joy. I have so much to be thankful for. Here's a short list:

1. A Savior who died for me even though I am not deserving.

2. Amazing friends who helped me while I was down
3. A great, faithful husband who loves me very much
4. A little bun in the oven who we can't wait to meet in 3 months (from today!!)
5. A great family
6. A wonderful, flexible job
7. A roof over my head and all my needs and most of my wants met

Oh my goodness, there is so much more. I am so blessed beyond my measure and no car is bringing me down this week! :)

No good, very bad...and expensive week!

So, I am really trying to understand how to have joy in the midst of persecution, but man it is tough. It is so true that you cannot have that joy aside from God because there is no joy here right now in myself. So, let's review the week:

Monday at BSF: Come out of Bible Study at about 9:30pm and both of the tires on my driver side are slashed. Wonderful! ON that one, I came out pretty unscathed, having AAA tow me and then buying gently used tires, but still, the principle. Who slashes tires, that is evil and just meant to hurt someone!

Tuesday and Wednesday were good days, but then came today. I walk out to get in my car and oh to my wondering eyes would appear a HUGE orange boot on my car. I always used to look at those on peoples cars and think they were irresponsible people, ya, until I got one this morning and realized the City of Chicago is a dis-organized, rude organization. So, rewind, apparently, I had 3 tickets that hadn't been paid, mind you, I always pay my tickets. The third one was from the fall and I forgot to pay it, but the other 2, I never got!!!  One was for parking in a walk zone, what??? Never did that! Then, to make matters worse, they send the notices to an address I haven't lived at in 3, let me say it again, 3 years! Then, they blame it on me for not updating my address. I update it every single year when I update my plates and city sticker. Sorry, I don't know if I'm feeling like I am being mistreated or me over-reacting from the pregnancy hormones, but what I know is true, is this has been a no good, very bad...and expensive week!

Here's some pictures to show for my lovely week:

My car, the next day, when we went to take care of it. Notice the lack of air in both tires...oh lovely!

My poor car, just 2 days later...Jack even feels bad for me, sweet little guy!

If anyone has a funny story or a nice comment, I could use them all. Weirdly, I didn't get emotional about the tires being slashed, but this has wrecked me. Just feel a little picked on this week :(

Allen Field House...#12

There are a few schools who are more well known for their school spirit than others. I would say, based off of experience, the top 5 in my circle of friends of people who are a little obnoxious about their school spirit are...Texas A&M, Ohio State, Duke, Penn State and KU. So most people who didn't go to KU don't really understand our love for our school. We do! And...it is warranted because it is pretty much the most awesome university in America. Nice people, good academics, beautiful campus...and did I mention an AMAZING basketball team!

Well KU fans, we no long have to brag about how our basketball stadium is the best in the country anymore, Business Insider is doing it for us.  Out of the top 100 venues in the world for watching sports, KU is number 12! Not only that, but it is the first one ranked for college basketball arenas! In case you are doubting my honesty, here is the article

This is how they determined which made the top 100 list:

"In order to determine which sporting venues are the cream of the crop, they developed a three-category system and awarded each a number from one to 10, with 10 being the best.

The first category is architecture/ambiance/aesthetics. It critiques what every stadium brings to the table structurally. Older grounds may have outdated architecture, but they make up for that with an environment that makes watching the sport even better.

The second category, "History," is an aggregate score of the historical importance of the team, the games played at the stadium, and the venue itself. Some of the stadiums on the list are quite new, which brought down their scores. Don't worry Yankees fans, your new stadium will score highly in this category soon.

The final category is "passion." How much do the fans care about the team who plays there? The roar of the crowd can do more for a stadium than almost anything."

So, KU fans, when people make fun of us for our pride, just point them to this article!
