Strangely I have become really crafty this year. This is a new thing in the life of Meg Piercy. I always enjoyed seeing other peoples crafts, but never thought I could do the same. I have to say that I am super excited about how awesome our crafty new ventures have been. I now know how to knit, crochet, sew, build, cook, use photoshop, InDesign, grill and build. Not bad for not even one year into marriage. Susie homemaker is my new name at work. It is starting to grow on me. What is even better is that my husband Joe loves either encouraging my work or doing it with me. Such fun to have a crafty husband.
Although I could go on and on about all of the fun projects we have done, I am going to focus on our July projects. If you need a project and don't know where to start building, go to my absolutely favorite of building blogs, it is amazing. www.knock-offwood.com. It will blow your mind.
Our first project and the one that really got us into building was the desk that Joe bought on Craigslist. We literally had to completely take it apart as it was an L shaped desk and take off the molding, add new vanier and shelving for the back. We are pretty proud of Joe's new desk. Very official :)
Our next project was inspired by our next door neighbors who had a fun outdoor area. We decided we wanted an outdoor room that we could hang out in. We bought a grill made the bench that opens up into storage and then I sewed all the cushions. Add a grill and it made for the perfect place to celebrate the 4th of July.
This past weekend we decided we needed a new coffee table and didnt want to spend a lot of money, thus the ottoman coffee table. We bought all the wood at Home Depot and the fabric and foamcore at a fabric store and voila our beautiful ottoman was birthed :)
Our little guy before his haircut. Jack is pretty much the cutest little guy alive. He helped us with all of our projects this weekend by jumping in our laps, grabbing the tools and running away, biting the corners of the wood. But hey, how can you get mad at that cute face :)
Not only did we build lots over the weekend, but I baked my favorite black and white New York cookies. They were a hit! Here is the link to the recipe: http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Black-and-White-Cookies-106171
Then my hubby left me after a great weekend to go on a mission trip to Slovakia for 15 days. I am bachelorette-ing it for the next 2 weeks, so girlfriends, call me, I would love to get together :)
Joe just before he left this afternoon....bags all packed!
Until next time....
